Careers in Economics and Statistics
Overview
If you have studied Economics or Statistics you may find it helpful to look at the following to help you think about the skills you have developed and what specific career areas you might want to go into that are related to your degree:
Economist
To become an Economist you will usually need a degree in Economics and roles are available in both the public and private sectors. The Government Economic Service is the biggest recruiter of the economists in the UK and they also offer a placement scheme.
The Bank of
England also run an Analyst Career Training programme open to
graduates of all disciplines, as well as offering various placement
opportunities.

The Society of Business Economists is a professional organisation which provides general advice on careers in this area.

Statistics
Statisticians work in a wide range of public and private sectors including government, health and education. Recruiters are generally looking for graduates with numerate degrees and particularly for relevant degrees such as economics, maths and statistics.
The Government Statistical Service is the largest provider of statisticians in the UK and has three routes of entry.
