Students with additional needs
UWE Bristol offers support for students with additional needs.
Fully-accessible and adapted rooms
We offer fully-accessible adapted rooms in our accommodation on Frenchay Campus. These adaptations include wheelchair access, adapted bathrooms, lever taps, hand rails, adjustable basin, sink, hob and desk heights. We also offer accommodation for carers, if required.
Rooms containing a visual fire alarm and vibrating pad alarm are also available for students with a hearing impairment. Additional adaptations may be made on an individual basis, including for those with a visual impairment, or personal medication fridges subject to adequate notice being provided.
If you require adaptations or allocation to a specific room type it is important that you let us know as soon as possible.
Assistive animals in accommodation
We can accommodate guide dogs and other assistance animals within the Frenchay Student Village and Wallscourt Park. This accommodation is first-come, first-served so please let us know your requirements as soon as possible.
Applying for adapted rooms or extra support
When you submit your accommodation application please ensure that you provide details regarding the support you require. Once you have applied for accommodation we will contact you for further information regarding your specific requirements.
Students will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire to provide more detailed information to support their accommodation application. We will require medical evidence from your medical practitioner.
Students requiring allocations to specific accommodation or adaptations/equipment within our accommodation will need to apply as early as possible to ensure that we can offer you the level of support required.
