PARTNERSHIP INFORMATION

Welcome to the partnership pages of our website, here you will find all the necessary information and documentation for schools, colleges, trainees and tutors.

The Ofsted report 2007/2008 said of UWE: “ Partnership arrangements are very strong.  Communication between the university, schools, trainees and other partners is very good and high quality”.

Partnership with UWE offers schools, colleges and early years settings the opportunity to play a major part in training the next generation of teachers and to gain support for existing teachers in professional development.  Additionally, working with trainees, in partnership with the University, can have a positive impact on pupils’ learning. UWE highly values its long standing partnerships with some 400 secondary,  further education, primary and early year settings across the South West and beyond and welcomes applications from new partnership schools and colleges.

Our aim is to prepare, in partnership with schools, newly qualified teachers who reflect on and learn from their own teaching and from the effective practice of others; who are knowledgeable, adaptable, creative and independent; and who are sensitive and effective in their communication with others.  UWE trainees are trained and educated to teach all core and foundation subjects and are sensitised to the various needs of learners in schools/settings.

Why UWE?

The School of Education has an excellent track record of secondary and primary Initial Teacher education.  Some of our recent achievements include:

  • A modern architect-designed building on the main Frenchay campus including state-of-the-art ICT equipment in all teaching and resource rooms
  • Management and QA for Primary ITE programmes/partnership has been judged as “outstanding” (Grade 1) in the January 08 OfSTED inspection
  • Our secondary provision achieved the same Grade 1 status in the 2007 inspection
  • We have been identified as a ‘beacon provider’ for the impact of our Postgraduate Professional provision which puts us amongst the top providers in the country
  • Our trainees are highly sought after in the workplace.  We are particularly pleased with the number of trainees gaining employment in the local area

Just a few of the benefits to you…..

  • Free Postgraduate Professional Development for partnership colleagues (PPD) By taking trainees for a period of professional practice, Primary schools are entitled to claim a fee waiver of up to 40 credits for up to three teachers on our Postgraduate Professional Development Programme.  Secondary schools may claim the same fee waiver for up to five teachers.
  • Opportunities for your year 10 students to be involved with Career Guidance activities at UWE
  • A contribution towards supply cover and travel expenses for initial training and subsequent development for key staff
  • ITE activity that contributes to evidence of effective good practice for OfSTED or for individual threshold submissions
