Science in the Print Media
A look at the strengths and weaknesses of different media, what makes science newsworthy and the news gathering process.
This session provides an introduction to the print media, such as newspapers and magazines. The session focuses on how these media differentiate themselves to cater for a range of different audiences and the effect this has on the science they communicate (both content and style). Participants also explore the news gathering process and how to engage with journalists.
Duration: Three hours
Minimum Participants: Five
Maximum Participants: Fifteen
Resources Required: PowerPoint facilities, flipcharts, pens, room layout conducive to group work.
