"Increasingly, current society seems to place considerable importance on appearance and looking good. This can prove distressing for many people, including those whose appearance is, for any reason, different to ‘the norm’. For example, people treated for cancer often experience hair loss, weight changes, skin complaints, scarring and amputation which can have a significant psychosocial impact including reduced self-esteem, increased self-consciousness and problems with social interactions and relationships."
