How to deposit datasets to the UWE Bristol Research Data Repository

The Research Data Repository can accept completed datasets where the data can be shared without restriction. It is important to note that once fully open anonymised datasets have been shared in the Research Data Repository, they cannot be deleted as anyone is able to open and download them.

Please be aware that the Research Data Repository cannot be used to store datasets as backups, or where datasets are still being actively worked on.

The quick guide to depositing data (PDF) describes how to deposit a dataset, covering both uploading the files and completing the relevant metadata. You can also view the video guide for more information.

Remember to:

  • agree to the Terms of Submission
  • complete all mandatory fields that describe the data associated with your research project, as well as any additional fields that will assist users in understanding and re-using your dataset
  • add details of your funding and PIMS codes
  • include a link to any related publications, such as articles or conference papers in the UWE Bristol Research Repository.

Depositing restricted data

Restricted data has some degree of sensitivity involved. For example, research participants may not have given explicit consent to share data as Open data. However, the risk of re-identification of participants is considered low.

If your data is classed as ‘restricted’  then you will need to provide clear guidance on how people can access your data. It may not be possible to store your data files depending on the requirements for access. Please contact The Repository Team at repository@uwe.ac.uk for more information.

Depositing controlled data

Controlled data has a large degree of sensitivity involved. For example, research participants have not given explicit consent to share as Open data and/or the risk of re-identification of participants is medium to high.

If your data is classed as ‘controlled’ then you cannot upload the data files to the Research Data Repository. You can still create a metadata only record or your dataset, which will be available publicly in the Research Data Repository. Please contact The Repository Team at repository@uwe.ac.uk for more information and to discuss options for storing the files.
