Public health and wellbeing

Interests and expertise

Public health and wellbeing research brings together experts from many backgrounds including social scientists, public health and health promotion specialists, epidemiologists, health economists, psychologists, health visitors, nurses and midwives. Our research seeks to encourage national improvements in public health by contributing to the evidence base that underpins these advances. Research focused on public health and wellbeing covers a wide range of work that improves the health and sustainability of communities, follows life course approaches and involves interventions amongst individuals, communities and populations.

Public health research at UWE has a track record in delivering a wide range of applied research including:

  • Evaluation of school-based and wider community interventions
  • Young people
  • Health promotion and risk
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • Offender health
  • Healthy settings
  • Public health workforce development
  • Arts and health
  • Historical perspectives on contemporary policy issues.
