The Department of Applied Sciences aims to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone.

We want to develop the full potential of our students whilst offering an enriched educational experience that equips them with the qualifications and skills to achieve their ambitions.

Based at the University's Frenchay Campus, we offer a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, professional training and continuing professional development courses and events.

Teaching and learning

We have an excellent reputation for the quality of our teaching and approvals from external bodies such as the Forensic Science Society, the Institute of Biomedical Sciences and the Institution of Environmental Sciences.

We have received excellent feedback in the National Student Survey, and believe in maintaining a high-quality student experience and high standing with graduate employers.

International reputation

We have an international reputation for research and knowledge exchange and hosts the Centre for Research in Biosciences in addition to the Science Communication Unit, which provides an environment for research students and post-doctoral scientists.

We also have student transfer partnerships with institutions in China, Malaysia, Vietnam and the USA, and research collaborations across the globe.

Research and knowledge exchange

Research and knowledge exchange are fundamental to the Department, both in terms of our contribution to the global academic community and society, and to enhance the quality of our teaching and student experience.

Staff and students in the Department work on various projects funded by Research Councils, charities, business, industry and government agencies. In addition, the Department contributes to the University Institutes of Biosensing Technology and Health, Sustainability and the Environment.
