BSc(Hons) Physiotherapy

Induction Information

To make sure everything is in place for induction week you must come along to the Glenside Campus on either Saturday or Sunday of Welcome Weekend. We will be able to ensure you have completed your online registration properly and check any outstanding academic certificates or Criminal Record Bureau checks which may be holding things up. Drop into the Glenside Student Centre on Saturday 17 September between 10am and 4pm or Sunday 18 September between 11am and 3pm. There will also be lots of things going on to help you settle into University life and it will be an opportunity for you to meet staff and other new students, so come along and join us!

When does the course start?

The course will begin on Monday 19 September 2011 at 10.00 at the Glenside Campus.

Please report to Reception on arrival where staff will be available to direct you to your first session.

Induction Week Timetable

The induction week timetable is available to download.

You will be able to access your individual timetable through myUWE once you have registered, using your UWE ID number. Please print out and bring a copy of your timetable with you for induction week, this will ensure you attend the correct sessions.

Deposit for Bones

During the first week we will be loaning you a half skeleton for which you will be asked to pay a deposit of £12.00 (refundable if the skeleton is returned complete and in a similar condition as when loaned). Please use the Online Store (new window) and follow the instructions to make your deposit payment on-line prior to your Welcome Weekend:-

Please note: You will be required to bring on the first day of induction your confirmation of payment so that you can be issued the half skeleton.

Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)

As a Physiotherapy student you are eligible to become a student member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP). The CSP link outlines the benefits and fees associated with this.  Further information regarding the CSP and how to join will be available at the start of the programme.

IT

You will need to use a range of IT skills while you are a student with us so if you are a bit rusty it would be a good idea to put some practice in before you start your course to ensure you are familiar with using e-mail, the internet and software such as Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. UWE has developed a range of resources to help students which you will be directed to at the relevant time but for now you might find it useful to have a look at a recent version of our Student Computing at UWE guide.

Reminder

In previous correspondence you will have already been informed about our requirements regarding:

• Academic certificates
• Criminal Records Bureau checks
• Occupational Health clearance

If any of these requirements are still outstanding you really must send the relevant paperwork to us, as instructed, as soon as possible, preferably ahead of Welcome Week/end and induction.

NHS Student Grant Unit (SGU) Bursaries

The initial bursary payment from NHS Student Bursaries should be paid within the first two weeks of registration. Students will receive a two month instalment in advance. This will be paid directly into your bank account.

Queries concerning non-payment of a bursary should be directed to the Student One Stop Shop (S1SS) or relevant Site Office. Students in receipt of a bursary must ensure that NHS Student Bursaries are informed of changes in bank details via the PSM10 form which is available from the S1SS and Site Offices.

You are advised to bring sufficient funds to support yourself for at least the first month of term.

Uniform

It is necessary to attend practical sessions in appropriate clothing and to be prepared to partially undress, when appropriate, to facilitate the development of professional skills and attitudes.

We therefore strongly recommend that prior to commencement of the course, students purchase the following:

  • Polo shirt (suggest white) *
  • Sleeveless T-shirt (suggest white)
  • Sweat shirt (suggest navy)
  • Tracksuit trousers (suggest navy)
  • Loose fitting shorts (suggest navy)

* Polo shirts can be purchased through the Student Union shop on campus.

You will be measured for and provided with your clinical uniform once you arrive.

Access arrangments for disable students

The Faculty Student Advisers are available for students to consult on a range of issues, including access arrangements that are needed to ensure equal access for disabled students. If you indicated on your application form that you consider yourself disabled, then you should expect to hear from them before the programme starts. However, whether you indicated this on your form or not we would like to draw your attention to this service.

If you consider yourself disabled in any way and would like advice on how the Faculty can promote your inclusion in the programme please contact the School Student Advisers at Glenside who can be contacted as follows:
