Delegation from TOI visit Centre for Transport and Society

On 7 November 2008, Centre for Transport and Society played host to a visit from a delegation of 11 colleagues from the Department of Communication and Accessibility at the Institute of Transport Economics (TOI), Oslo, Norway.

The Department is organised into four research groups - Regional analysis, Tourism, Travel behaviour and Sustainable mobility.

In recognition of the potential strong synergies between the two groups arrangements had been made for a specific trip from TOI to UWE. A full day of activities was planned in order to enable the gathering of some 30 people to become more familiar with each other and with the range of research activity and interest in the two groups. The intention was also to strengthen existing links between individuals and to explore possible areas of common interest.

In a series of plenary and breakout sessions three key areas were examined:

  • sustainable mobility, behaviour and attitudes;
  • infrastructure, built environment and investment; and
  • new technologies, travel and transport.

A number of specific topics for ongoing and future collaboration were identified. The visit concluded with a farewell dinner in Bristol city centre.
