Within the Science Base, Judi and Ross manage and maintain a huge collection of resources to support the teaching and learning of this subject, at Early Years, Primary and Secondary levels.
Science education naturally includes lots of practical, hands-on activities, and opportunities to experiment (and have fun!). We provide equipment, and advice on how to use it, for teaching sessions and individual study, as well as offering a loan service during school placements. The equipment inventory ranges from elastic bands and cotton reels to Van de Graaf generators and oscilloscopes.
Recently we have been able to offer workshops (at Early Years and Primary levels) where students can "play" with resources during informal discussions, to improve their subject knowledge. Occasional "Technician sessions" on the Secondary courses enable students to practise the sort of practical sessions they are likely to teach when qualified. We also support Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) courses for Secondary ITE students and occasional CPD courses for existing teachers.
