Data analysis, methodology and evaluation

We have extensive experience in the design, analysis and interpretation of both qualitative and quantitative data, with a focus on the practical application of techniques. The team has extensive experience in the use of large survey data, and in the production, use, analysis and interpretation of statistics from government sources. A particular strength of the department is the familiarity with economic data produced by the Office for National Statistics.

Main research and consultancy interests

  • Government statistical data: quality, interpretation, and policy use
  • Access to data: security, confidentiality, management and policy development
  • Macroeconomic modelling
  • Economic evaluation
  • Mixed- and multi-method research approaches
  • Applied econometrics: time series, cross section, panel data and spatial analysis
  • Statistical disclosure control

Current projects

In addition to these projects the team provides consultancy services to a range of government bodies (national and international) and academic organisations.

We exploit our expertise for teaching at a number of levels. In particular, we offer tailored Continuing Professional Development material for clients: we have developed short courses in econometrics, applied econometrics and economic evaluation which have been designed for the needs of professionals; and we are exploring the development of modules in understanding economic data and official statistics.
