Career development

Enhancing your employability

We are dedicated to supporting you and your personal career aspirations. The course director and tutors work with UWE Bristol Careers Service, regional legal employers and recruitment experts in order to put you in the best position when applying for legal employment and preparing you for entry into the legal profession.

We provide support during the application and selection processes, such as help with CVs and application forms, alerting you to vacancies and providing networking opportunities, as well as support with mock interviews and how to present yourself in the best possible way to potential recruiters.

Guidance and support

We will support you from the moment you accept an offer on one of our professional Law courses. This support ranges from:

  • a personal tutor who will provide one-to-one advice on career development
  • regular talks and presentations from those who work in legal practice (including many former students)
  • providing invaluable advice
  • placements
  • work experience and
  • mentoring opportunities.

Teamed with excellent online learning support, we will fully prepare you for your entry into the legal profession.

Supervising Principles (SP)

Students on the LPC (Legal Practice Course) are assigned a Supervising Principal (SP), who will give you the support a senior lawyer might give a trainee solicitor in practice. Your SP will help you through the process of applying for training contracts, backed up by a specialist LPC Careers Tutors, who can help with applications aimed at specific sectors of the legal market.

Facilities and opportunities for knowledge sharing

Students on the GDL course share common rooms with LPC students, so you have your own dedicated social space, where you can work on projects and assignments and also gain informal advice about the next steps in your career.

Simulations in Transactional Activities (SIMITA) is an online interactive learning environment which gives you the opportunity to acquire and practice case working skills, with the help of technology that behaves and feels exactly like that of a modern professional office.
