How do I attach a printer to my computer?

To attach a printer to a Windows XP machine

  • Identify which printer you wish to attach using the list above and copy the address (e.g. \\psta-uwe06\cl-fbl-mfd01
  • Click 'Start', 'Settings', 'Printers and Faxes' 'Add printer'
  • The Add Printer Wizard will start. Click 'Next'
  • Check the 'connect to network printer' option is selected. Click 'Next'
  • Select the second option 'connect to this printer'. Paste the name into the box
  • Select whether you wish to use the printer as your default printer. Click 'Next'
  • Click 'Finish'

To attach a printer to a Windows 7 machine

  • Identify which printer you wish to attach using the list above and copy the address (e.g. \\psta-uwe06\cl-fbl-mfd01)
  • Click the Windows button in the bottom left corner and select ‘Devices and Printers’
  • Select ‘Add a printer’ and then ‘Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer’. Click ‘Next’
  • Select ‘The printer that I want isn’t listed’. Click ‘Next’
  • Check ‘Select a shared printer by name’.  Paste the name into the box. Click ‘Next’
  • Click ‘Next’.  Decide whether the printer should be your default printer and tick the box accordingly. 
  • Click ‘Finish’
