Celebrating Placements Success 2010

Group photo of students celebrating placements success 2010The BBS placements team took time to recognise the achievements of its placement students in the celebrating placements success event which was held at UWE’s Frenchay Campus in October.  

The event which is in its fourth year played host to over 100 students and their employers who included: Airbus, Lloyds TSB, Fujitsu-Siemens and The Environment Agency. Guests were treated to a three course dinner, followed by an awards style ceremony during which the prizes were presented.  

The event was opened by Dorothy James, Placements Centre Manager, followed by Jane Harrington, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean for the Faculty of Business and Law, who praised the students on their hard worked and thanked employers for their support. Professor Paul Dowdall acted as compere for the evening.

The following awards were presented:

Study Year Abroad Award

Presentation of award by Mary Bishop (International Business Programmes and Partnerships)

Winner: Adrian Evans, ESSCA École de Management - Angers

Placement Year Award

Presentation of award by Jane Harrington

Winner: Andrew Fyffe (Votive Communications), David Hayhurst (BskyB)

Placement Employer Award

Presentation of award by Jane Harrington (Pro Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean)

Winners: Space2, The Walt Disney Company

Placement Achievement Award

Presentation of award by Dorothy James (Placements Manager)

Winners: Jalil Balolia (Associação Atlética, Ponte Preta), Andrew Li (Environment Agency)

Rebecca Williams, BA(Hons) Business Studies student, was presented with the Microsoft placement student of the year award. Rebecca was shortlisted from 68 placement students before being chosen from a final list of 14. The award was presented to Rebecca by her manager Alan Core, Partner Account Manager. He said “Rebecca has been a true asset to the Partner Team. She has been instrumental in driving the success of several programmes in the UK which would not have been possible without Rebecca's drive and determination to make them a success.” More information.

Matt Rusling, Assistant Placement Manager said that the evening was "a fantastic way to celebrate student success in the working environment and to thank employers for their contribution to individual development”
