Academic Success Centre

The Academic Success Centre (ASC) in the Faculty of Business and Law is a faculty initiative intended to support the learning of all students within the faculty.

What kind of help is available?

You can visit the Academic Success Centre in room 2B076. Types of support available include the following:

  • One-to-one appointments to discuss individual learning issues
  • Workshops covering a range of topics relevant to learning, including:
  • Time management
  • Reading skills
  • Writing skills
  • Critical thinking
  • Conducting literature reviews
  • Referencing your work
  • Getting used to studying in higher education

Each week during teaching weeks and some non-teaching weeks there will be a different timetable of activities for the Academic Success Centre. The timetable will be mailed to student email addresses each week, and copies will be posted on the door of 2B076 and on notice boards next to the exit from ‘B’ block toward Felixstowe Court.

About Craig Whittaker

Craig has been a lecturer in Higher Education for over twenty years and he has previously taught in the USA, the UK and the Netherlands. During that time he has taught business and communication and he has recently completed a PhD in international higher education and student mobility via the ERASMUS programme. 

Craig is available via e-mail, (craig.whittaker@uwe.ac.uk) and can be found in the Academic Success Centre (Room 2B076, Frenchay Campus) on most teaching days. As the Lead Academic Success Tutor, he not only helps students but also advises academic colleagues on how to enhance their students’ learning.

Other people who can help in the ASC

In addition to the Lead Academic Success Tutor, the ASC is staffed by eight Assistant Support Lecturers (ASLs) covering Law, Business Accounting and Economics, five Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) Leaders and two other Lecturers. Appointments can be booked with ASLs and PAL Leaders via Infohub.
