About the Centre for Sport
Enhancing health, encouraging participation and raising performance in sport
UWE's Centre for Sport on Frenchay Campus is the central hub of sport and fitness activity at UWE, providing excellent sports facilities and activities for students, staff and the wider community.
Fantastic sports facilities
Our state-of-the-art sports facilities include an Olympic standard sports hall, indoor climbing wall, astro pitch and squash courts. The Centre for Sport is an official training camp for the 2012 Olympics, with teams such as the Kenyan Olympic team making the most of our facilities in the run up to the 2012 Olympic Games.
Most of our sports facilities are available for hire, and we can host a variety of sporting and non-sporting events ranging from traditional football tournaments to corporate fun days and children's parties.
Activities and sports for all
If you’re looking to get fit, our fully equipped fitness suites and range of fitness classes and sporting activities can help you on your way. Find out more about our range of membership options.
If you have never set foot in a gym before, fear not, our friendly team of experienced professionals are here to help. We also offer a range of sports services to support your fitness goals and rehabilitation needs.
We also run regular Hotshots Holiday Camps, which are a great way to get kids involved in sporting and arts activities over the school holiday periods.
Our partnerships
UWE Centre for Sport works in partnership with South Gloucestershire Council and Bristol City Council through various programmes to increase physical activities and health throughout the region.
Our Phase IV Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme, developed in partnership with Frenchay Hospital, is now in its 12th year. The programme guides patients to enhance their lifestyle and to help prevent further cardiac episodes.
Sport development and participation
The Centre for Sport also offers a range of coaching courses to develop aspiring coaches, and actively encourages participation in sport locally, nationally and internationally through the EDGE sports volunteering programme.
Supporting elite athletes
If you’re an elite athlete, sign-up to our unique EliteUWE scheme. You'll receive a bespoke training plan, advice and specialist sports services delivered by our specialist team. The scheme also offers bursaries to help fund tuition fees and accommodation.
