UWE WARPit recycling network

Don't bin it - WARPit

UWE now has its own corporate recycling network, WARPit, which enables staff to recycle UWE owned items.

How WARPit works

WARPit is an online tool which enables members of staff to advertise any unwanted or underused items for donation or loaning both within UWE and to external organisations such as charities and partner organisations. This avoids unnecessary purchases, and both saves money and reduces the amount of waste going to landfill and associated carbon emissions.

Watch the WARPit guide for staff video on YouTube for a brief introduction to how the system works.

How to sign-up

You can sign-up to WARPit online. This will involve submitting your details and agreeing to the WARPit Terms and Conditions.

Upon registration, you should then receive an acknowledgement e-mail followed by an approval e-mail with login details and further instructions. You will then be able to search for items, give away or loan out items.

Getting started

How to search for items

To search for items:

  1. Log in to WARPit using your username and password.
  2. Use the green search button (top right corner) to carry out a basic search and the 'free text' field for an advanced search.
  3. Available items from UWE and the WARPit club will be displayed on the first tab. The other tab shows items available within other organisations nationally.

If you cannot find an item you are looking for you can add it to your wish list, which is located on the left hand side menu. You will then receive a priority message if the item becomes available.

How to find out about new items on WARPit?

UWE’s WARPit system sends out a regular roundup of activity. As a default this is sent every day, however, you can change it to weekly or switch it off by going into the “edit your details” section in your profile (located in the left hand side menu). The roundup allows you to view and claim new items that are listed via the roundup communication.

Please note that by receiving daily roundups, you will get first notification of new items in the system.

How to claim items

To claim items:

  • Select the item for further information.
  • Click the 'claim' button.
  • A message will then be sent to the owner.
  • You will also receive an e-mail with futher information on how to collect the item.

The system will send you a reminder to pick up an item until you change the status of the item to ‘collected’. Please do this via the WARPit regular roundup message or via the menu on the left hand side of the WARPit portal.

Please note that claims are made on a first come first served basis.

How to advertise underused or surplus resources

  1. Log in to WARPit using your username and password.
  2. Select “Add an item” in the left hand menu.

  8. Please try to keep resources on the system for as long as is possible to ensure internal redistribution.
  9. Add a deadline for the final date that you wish the resources to be moved by.
