Law graduate destinations

96% of UWE Bristol graduates in Law work or are in further study after six months.

From the moment our students start, they get careers information and advice - from employers, our careers team, and their tutors. So by the time they graduate, they will be equipped with the experience, contacts and skills to succeed in their chosen careers.

Graduate career opportunities

Our graduates go into a wide range of careers. These extend further than the traditional careers of solicitor or barrister.

Some go directly into legal roles including:

  • Trainee Lawyer.
  • Legal Associate.
  • Paralegal.
  • Legal Adviser.
  • Legal Claims Handler.
  • Litigation Executive.

Others go into graduate jobs in areas including business management, insurance, finance, recruitment and teaching.

Over a third (41%*) go into further study – at UWE Bristol and farther afield. These tend to be on specialist legal courses as below, and some students choose non legal courses such as PGCE:

  • Solicitors - Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
  • Barristers - Postgraduate Diploma Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC).

Placements and work experience

Work experience is vital in today's crowded jobs market. And while our students are here, we provide one-to-one support to help them find experience that fits their career plans.

  • As well as help finding a placement, we prepare students for this at employability workshops.
  • Students can get valuable legal experience volunteering at our award-winning Pro Bono unit.

Specialist careers support

Sector specific careers advice is available for each department.

Students can come along to daily careers drop-ins and workshops or schedule a one-to-one coaching appointment with our dedicated Careers team. Students have access to online resources including the UWE InfoHub vacancy search engine and Careers toolkit supporting students to find jobs and providing help with the recruitment processes. Meet the Employer Fair, Employer-led workshops and industry insight and networking events occur throughout the academic calendar giving students the opportunity to engage with employers directly.

We also arrange specialist law workshops and events including the Law Fair, BPTC CV Clinics and Aspiring Solicitors.

And it doesn't end when our students graduate. Alumni can access our careers services up until three years after graduation.
