Masterplan update - May 2014

An update on the progress of the ongoing Masterplan projects.

Wallscourt Park Residences

Wallscourt Park obtained planning permission to build 396 bedrooms (delivering 408 bed spaces) on the Frenchay Campus. This is the first phase of student accommodation, which will eventually deliver an extra 1,200 bedrooms on campus.

Ground works commenced on site for this first phase in January 2014 and are now complete. The project is set to deliver the first 100 bedrooms by September this year. The remaining bedrooms will be delivered in December. See further information about the Wallscourt Park Residences project.

Glenside Campus future developments

Following the successful completion of the works undertaken in 2012 and 2013, further works are committed to develop the campus facilities to improve the student experience. A programme of works will be undertaken over the next two years covering other parts of the campus including the Faculty, Library services, the Students’ Union and Facilities.

Planned refurbishment and works

To commence, a new lecture theatre is being formed in the old Laundry, before an area of G Block is converted to a Child Nursing Simulation Suite. Refurbishment and works planned for completion by September will commence in J and K blocks to deal with the long standing issues with the heating system. From October onwards, further work is anticipated to start to remodel the ground floor of E Block and the remaining part of G block.

A continuous stream of refurbishments and alterations are underway to build teaching and other spaces fit for the 21st Century university environment.

Bower Ashton Campus developments and St Matthias closure

At Bower Ashton Campus, a new courtyard infill is being constructed to create a new Open Access Learning Zone within an expanded refectory and bar area on the ground floor and an extended Library on the first floor. Alongside this, rehearsal and performance space is being created for Drama students relocating from St Matthias Campus. These new spaces will be ready and open in September 2014.

St Matthias Campus will cease operating on 4 July 2014, and the site will then be cleared over the summer to be ready to hand over to the new owner.

Feasibility works are continuing for redevelopment work at Bower Ashton Campus in the forthcoming years. Find out more about the Bower Ashton Campus redevelopment project.
