Masterplan update - June 2013
An update on the progress of the ongoing Masterplan projects.
Outline planning gets the green light
UWE Bristol’s vision to build a university for the 21st Century came a step closer on 6 June 2013, when the outline planning permission for the University’s Masterplan was granted by South Gloucestershire Council with unanimous approval.
The Masterplan aims to satisfy UWE’s changing needs over the next 25 years, with a range of building proposals supported by the necessary infrastructure.
The plans will make the most of the adjoining land acquired by the University in 2008 from Hewlett Packard, UWE’s neighbour at the Frenchay Campus. The additional 70 acres of land nearly doubled the size of the Frenchay Campus and provided the means for much needed expansion.
The proposals will transform the way the University works, providing a modern environment which will support students in their learning journey, as well as providing services available to employers and the local community.
Works on the new Students’ Union building will be due to start in mid July or early August.
