Badminton

If you are a beginner or intermediate player these sessions are suitable for you.

Badminton Coached Courses

These are eight-week courses led by a qualified coach. You will learn new skills or hone existing ones in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

Sessions are held at the Centre for Sport.

Beginners course 

Fridays 17:30–18:30

The course will cover:

  • grips
  • introduction to court movement
  • the Stroke Cycle (Start, Prepare, Hit, Recover)
  • serving
  • the basic overhead and underarm strokes
  • basic tactics and doubles formations
  • lines, rules and scoring.

Term 1: Friday 13 October to Friday 1 December 2017

Term 2: Friday 26 January to Friday 16 March 2018

Intermediates course

Fridays 18:30–19:30

Candidates must have either attended the beginners course or already possess the basic skills taught on the beginners course.

The course will cover:

  • a recap of the skills taught on the beginners course 
  • more advanced court movement
  • more advanced strokes and grips
  • doubles formations
  • singles tactics
  • attacking play
  • defensive play.

Term 1: Friday 13 October to Friday 1 December 2017

Term 2: Friday 26 January to Friday 16 March 2018

For both courses you are welcome to use your own racket, or they are available to hire at a cost of £1.50 with £5 deposit.

Important Information

There are a restricted amount of places per course, book early to avoid disappointment.

If you sign up to a course you have committed to attend each session, if you miss a large percentage of the sessions (and have not contacted us with a valid reason) you may forfeit your right to book on to future courses.
