Rugby Union Men
The UWE Rugby Union Men's Club is one of the Universities largest clubs competing in the Premier South B tier of BUCS. The club is forever expanding and caters for players of all standards from recreational league players to senior internationals.
Our partnership with Bristol Rugby enables UWE Bristol to offer scholarships to players identified by the Championship club as having future elite potential and who wish to combine their professional rugby aspirations with academic study with players having access to Bristol Academy training sessions.
UWE Bristol has recently established a partnership with Bishopston RFC which caters for all the clubs training needs as well as providing opportunity for Local Saturday League games.
At Frenchay Campus the halls of residence and Centre for Sport allow young student-athletes the opportunity to live an elite athletic lifestyle with combining their studies. For Rugby this means the opportunity to use the state of the art High Performance Gym which caters for all of the strength and conditioning needs of the Rugby Union programme.
UWE 1st XV Games are home to Clifton RFC’s first team pitch that competes at national league division 1.
Training and Competition
The UWE Rugby Union Club has 2 teams and both receive regular coaching throughout the week, preparing them for BUCS competitions. As well as representational sides playing on Wednesday’s students have the opportunity to play in the merit leagues, a great outlet for both elite and developing athletes, as well as playing in Touch Rugby or join street rugby socially.
There are two weekly team sessions as well as opportunities to train at the High Performance gym where the Strength and Conditioning team build a programme around the timetable of the athlete so it fits in with their studies.
