Hockey

The UWE Hockey club is one of the biggest clubs at the university with four Men’s teams and three Ladies teams all competing in BUCS. The UWE Men’s 1st currently play in Western 1A and the Lades 1st in Western 2A competing on Wednesday’s. In addition to BUCS the UWE Men’s 1st play in the Western Premier League every Saturday as Bristol UWE Hockey Club. The club is forever expanding and caters for players of all standards from recreational Social Sport players to senior internationals.

Bristol UWE Hockey Club was created in 2001 to provide for male students to play in Premiership Hockey and Redland UWE Ladies Hockey Club offers Premiership hockey for female players both of which are based at the Centre for Sport. There are also opportunities to engage with coaching, umpiring and mentoring through these partnerships.

Facilities

The Centre for Sport facilities and halls of residence on Frenchay Campus provide the perfect location for elite level hockey players to balance student life with the pursuit of excellence.

Training and Competition

UWE has a full time coach who is supported by a multi-disciplinary team of professional staff to develop and support players tactically, technically and through lifestyle provision in nutrition, psychology, strength and conditioning.

The university provides weekly coached sessions in order to improve performance of the team and individuals, as well as offering social play.

Coaching Team

The coaching team is a group of highly motivated and talented coaches who all share the common goal, to produce excellence in coaching and ensure all players get the most from Hockey.

Turloch O’Siochain – UWE Hockey Head Coach


Turloch was born in Rochester, Kent and grew up in Dublin, Ireland. He was introduced to Hockey by his father. Throughout his playing career Turloch played many European Club Competitions as well as regional representative hockey.

Turloch has always had a love of coaching getting involved when he was 17 years old; he has been a full time coach since 2004 and is centrally contracted for England Hockey. Over the years Turloch has been Head Coach for the Irish U18s, U21s and Ireland A Squads. He successfully led the Three Rock Rovers HC to the Euro Hockey League quarter finals in 2009.

Turloch joined UWE Bristol in 2009/2010 and is UWE Bristol's full time coach overseeing the Hockey programme and working with three part time coaches to develop Hockey at UWE Bristol.
