Our aims

We want to ensure that our learning programmes are accessible for all. We recognise that the different needs of all our students and staff should be taken into account in the development, delivery and assessment of the curriculum.

We are committed to ensuring that all staff have access to learning and development opportunities.

How we do this?

The objectives and actions set out within the Single Equality Scheme action plan will help us realise our aims and ensure that equality and diversity is embedded in everything that we do.

All staff are encouraged to complete the Equality Essentials e-learning training to help build understanding of the requirements for good equality practice.

Frequently asked questions

Is there any training that helps staff deal with casual racism?

The Equality and Diversity Unit offers Equality Essentials e-learning training for staff. This includes advice about how to recognise and challenge inappropriate behaviour, including casual racism at work.

UWE Bristol’s Learning and Development Centre (LDC) runs several relevant one day courses, including: “Equality and Diversity: UWE Bristol Manager”, “Communication Across Cultures”; “Assertiveness Skills”, “Communication Skills” and “Dealing with Difficult Situations and Handling Conflict”. If your chosen course is not on the current training schedule, LDC staff will be happy to talk about the options available.

What learning and development opportunities are available for staff?

UWE Bristol wants to ensure that all members of staff can develop themselves and reach their full potential. This commitment is set out in our Learning Development Policy. UWE Bristol expects staff to take responsibility for their own development and enlist the support of their managers to deal with any issues.
